Abstract

A Green's function theory is developed for calculating the dispersion of magnetic excitations and magnetic specific heat in intermetallic rare-earth compounds with the cubic Laves phase structure. Isotropic Heisenberg exchange with a cubic crystal field is considered. Numerical results for dispersion curves and specific heat in the paramagnetic phase are presented for model parameters appropriate to TmAl2.
