Abstract
Deformation behaviour of Al4Mg alloy at high strain rates (200 s −1) has been studied using a gravity drop hammer. The instrumentation employed to measure the force, the punch travel and the temperature rise during high velocity deformation is also described. Flow curves are obtained from the in situ compression test data in the temperature range 300 K – 800 K and necessary corrections are incorporated to account for the adiabatic temperature rise during upsetting of the material.
