Abstract

As part of a Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) design-build project, a causeway was constructed in 2017 to replace an aging bridge in the southwest metropolitan area of Minneapolis. The causeway runs through a lowland area in the Nine Mile Creek watershed on U.S Highway 169 in Hennepin County, MN. Its major components include a column-supported embankment (CSE), two 3,000-ft-long parallel retaining walls, 22 box culverts, and new roadway pavement.
