PurposeTo describe a proprietary golf swing measurement system and explore how it works.Design/methodology/approachThe purpose of the system is described, followed by an overview of the hardware. The capabilities of the image‐processing software are examined, along with the measurements and information that it produces.FindingsShort‐duration flash illumination produces multiple images of the club head and ball in a stereo pair of cameras, enabling the computation of the trajectory in three dimensions. Callaway has invested a great deal of experimental effort in this development.Originality/valueReveals the technical foundations of a sports application, for the general interest of engineers and scientists.
