Abstract
Goannas are a part of Australian folklore as they were important to Aboriginal Australians who had specific rituals connected to it. These still play a traditional life in northern Australia. Goannas were an important part of the Aboriginal diet but are extremely rare in archaeological sites. This note is on the discrepancy between the archaeological record and both the ethnographic record and the modern behavior of goannas arising out of observations of goannas in western New South Wales.
