Abstract

Abstract Morphometric characterization of the Ken River basin (KRB) in Central India was carried out by analyzing SRTM DEM and topographical maps using geographic information system (GIS). The Ken river basin and sub-basins comprise a dendritic drainage pattern with highest stream order varying from third order to sixth order, and the mean bifurcation ratio (2.09) showed that the drainage pattern was not affected by structural disturbances. Coarse texture, low relief, elongated shape of the basin and gentle terrain condition were found to be dominant morphometric parameters. These results could be utilized in restoration and conservation of natural resources in Ken river basin.
