Abstract

Transformational Satellite Communications System (TSAT) requires the development of many digital signal processing functions such as data acquisition, digital filters, modem functions, channelization, and channel coding on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology. One particular challenge is to support TSAT's channel coding requirement in FPGA technology. To meet this challenge, this paper presents a novel reconfigurable Turbo decoder architecture to support TSAT various data modes and a low complexity FPGA implementation capable of decoding rates up to 1 Gbps at 10 iterations.
