Abstract

A geometrical interpretation of the α(0) = 1 intercept for the reggeon and α(0) = 2 intercept of the pomeron is given in the dual string model. It is argued that these intercepts follow from Lorentz invariance, reparametrization invariance, and the absence of mass points on the string. No detailed dynamical knowledge of the strings is needed. Some applications of the geometrical arguments are given for string scatterings. The space-time properties of a fast string are discussed. A field theory example is given whose wave function has infinite transverse spatial extent in light-cone quantization but not in ordinary time quantization
