Abstract

The true geologist needs to accept himself as a locator, measurer, and producer of basic raw materials. World commercial activity and mineral consumption will not cease when the developed countries have consumed their natural resources. The less developed countries will insist on having mineral raw materials even if the price is higher than in the past because they aspire to comfort, health, and material conveniences and are essentially unconcerned with environmental considerations. The geologist needs to free himself from the counterfeit consensus of “public opinion” and use his knowledge. He has the technical ability to provide minerals to the world's populace. He knows that, while minerals may not be available at the old, low price, they will probably be available at a higher price. Most people will be willing to pay the higher price and the world's people will continue to utilize world resources.
