Summary
Scrutiny of genres dates back to Ancient Greece, and differentiating between different sorts of texts has continued since (Beghtol, 2001). While mentioning the term ‘genre’, it should be taken into account that the use of the word does not equal to the use of ‘text type’ since there are differences between the two. According to Biber (1988), a ‘text type’ refers to the linguistic form and the co-occurrence of these forms in a text and grouping is made according to these criteria. Linguistic forms within the same genre may vary to a serious extent (Biber, 1988; Richards et al, 1992; Dudley-Evans, 1989)
