Abstract

This study presents a genetic algorithm for the scheduling of erection at a dock. First, the model is formulated, which includes the constraints of crane capacity and erection network, and the objective function that concerns the shortest make span at the dock and the earliest time of shafting optical alignment. Then, a genetic algorithm is proposed to optimize the erection sequence, and a novel crossover operator is employed to ensure that each individual in new population is feasible. Finally, the erection sequence of a 74,500 dead weight ton (DWT) bulk carrier is optimized, and the result shows that this approach is effective.
