Abstract
A generic model of divorce mediation was developed to provide a framework for both court-connected and noncourt-connected mediation. The purpose of the model is to consolidate the fragmentation that currently appears in the field of divorce mediation without compromising the divergent ways in which divorce mediation is currently being practiced. The model begins with a screening interview to assess the positive and negative attributes of the mediating couple. Based on this screening device, the couple will be placed in an appropriate mediation setting. The generic model incorporates three previously identified models including the therapeutic model, the structured model and the labor-based model.
