Abstract

Starting from the "scaled" form of the expression for barrier strength (Gamow factor) used in Murphy-Good field electron emission (FE) theory, this Poster develops (without detailed proof here) a generalized barrier-strength formula that can be applied to tunneling/transmission problems in several different field electron and field ion emission contexts. Tables show how this formula can be customized to the different barriers concerned, and how it can adapted to apply to older equation systems. This generalization means that modern developments in the theory of the special mathematical function v(x) can now be applied in physical contexts other than FE from free-electron metals.
