Abstract

Z domain model of a single cavity structure as well as double cavity structure composed of fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) is developed and their performance analysis is presented in this article. A generalized approach for determination of transmittance in Z domain of FBG based cavities is introduced. Spectral characteristics in terms of peak transmittance, side lobes formation and bandwidth are determined for a single cavity structure of length 4.5 mm. The results are compared with previously published measured data of the same configuration and are found to be in very close agreement. An ultrashort single cavity structure is proposed and its transmission response is carried out in the article. The spectral characteristics of both symmetrical and asymmetrical double cavity structure of same length as that of single cavity FBG are determined. Performance parameters like FWHM, suppression of peaks, wavelength spacing are analyzed for the different configurations in Z domain.
