A general survey on the anodic behaviour of aromatic thioethers in organic solvents of low nucleophilicity

Abstract

Aromatic sulfides were oxidized electrochemically in super-dry conditions. Whatever the nature of aryl groups, the formation of sulfonium salts was observed. Dimeric dications as transients were also detected. Mechanisms are discussed as a function of the nature and location of substituents.
