Abstract

A general model describing the adsorption process from the single-component and multicomponent dilute aqueous solutions of dissociating organic substances on activated carbon is studied. The theoretical considerations are based on the theory of physical adsorption on energetically heterogeneous solids. The effect of solution pH and ionic strength is also taken into account. The theoretical considerations are illustrated by the experimental data for single-, bi-, and trisolute adsorption systems.
