Abstract
Abstract A general method for calculating the change in free energy of cooperative interaction upon partial or complete liganding of a protein containing an arbitrary number of binding sites is presented. This method is used to estimate the change in free energy of interaction upon oxygenation of hemoglobin under physiological conditions, which is compared to the internal energy change upon binding oxygen to the non-interacting binding site.
