Abstract
The molecular structure of trans-azobenzene has been studied by the gas electron diffraction method. The molecule was found to have a non-planar conformation with the phenyl groups twisted approximately 30° around the N-Ø bonds. It was, however, not possible to decide whether the phenyl groups were rotated to the same or to the opposite side of the planar ethylene group.
