Abstract

In the paper a gain-scheduled Linear-Quadratic (LQR) control system for the model of Hybrid Excitation Synchronous Machine (HESM) is presented. A special design feature of the hybrid excitation synchronous machines is an additional control loop which allows to control the resultant magnetic flux. From the control synthesis perspective hybrid excitation synchronous machines can be described as Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) dynamic systems. Therefore, in this case, a multivariable control methods seem to be the most appropriate for synthesizing control systems. The presented simulation results show that in comparison to the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSMs) the appropriate use of an additional flux control loop may improve the HESM control quality.
