Abstract

Finding a suitable partner among a number of possible alternatives is not a simple task; it requires an objective analysis using a systematic method, as well as a clear recognition of the company's own expectations. The proposed fuzzy rule-based system can help the manufacturer evaluate its logistics partners in the supply chain network. A case example is given to show how to select the most suitable logistics partner out of five alternatives that are based on three main selection criteria using the fuzzy rule-based system. The selection rule is based on the partner's suitability in terms of a 0?100 scaled score. The selection outcome shows the highest scoring alternative as the most suitable partner according to the manufacturer's customised requirements. This is expected to help the company find a suitable partner and increase the likelihood of achieving the most successful synergy.
