Abstract

A methodolgy is presented in this paper in which geotechnical parameter uncertainty is modeled by fuzzy numbers and allowed to propagate in a deterministic model. Emphasis in this paper is placed on the liquefaction potential evaluation considering parameter uncertainty.Three deterministic models are used for liquefaction potential evaluation. For each of these models, uncertainty in soil parameters is modeled by fuzzy numbers, and liquefaction potential is analyzed. Study of historical cases using the presented methodology is conducted. Results of these case studies clearly demonstrate that uncertainty can easily be incorporated and handled in a routine liquefaction evaluation.
