Abstract

The Fusion of multispectral(MS) and panchromatic(PAN) image is a useful technique for enhancing the spatial quality of low-resolution MS images. A new algorithm is proposed to merge a high-resolution PAN image and a low-resolution MS image based on Nonsubsampled Contourlet Transform (NSCT). Firstly, the MS image is transform into HIS space, and H, I, S components are obtained. Secondly, the original I component and PAN image were decomposed into multiresolution representation by using NSCT. The low frequency coefficients were fused with regional characteristics and the high frequency coefficients were fused with regional energy algorithm. Third, the fusion image can be obtained by performing inverse NSCT and inverse HIS transform. The experimental results showing that this algorithm can improve the spatial resolution of MS image while reducing sectral distortion and still maintaining its edge detail.
