Abstract

An examination of relationships between communication apprehension and information processing showed that high apprehensives not only rehearse more negative thoughts in anticipation of a speech, but also experience more speech-relevant thoughts and fewer neutral, functional thoughts than either moderate or low apprehensives. The results are discussed in terms of problem-focused vs. emotion-focused information processing and its relationship to communication apprehension.
