Abstract

The construction and operation of a King-type furnace for exciting spectra of radioactive or toxic materials are described. Absorption spectra of scandium, yttrium, and lanthanum have been taken. Both emission and absorption spectra of uranium and plutonium have been observed within the range 2400-7000 Å, in the second order of a 3 m grating spectrograph.
