Abstract

There are hardly any sufficient examples of LRT (Light Rail Transit) projects in Japan, therefore it is difficult to carry out inductive analyses to see the quantitative effects of LRT based on the past realized data. In this paper, using the data of cities that have tramway systems, the pre-stage of LRT, the difference of the characteristics of those cities is studied comparing the cities that don't have any tramway systems. Through the statistical analysis, it is clear that the cities having tramway systems show such features as the centripetal force of the area, the commercial scale and the compactness of the cities.LRT整備がまちづくりにもたらす効果について、わが国にはLRT事業の実例がほとんどないため過去データに基づいた定量的分析は困難である。そこで、本研究においては、LRTの前身とも言える路面電車を対象として、路面電車の通過している都市と類似の都市規模を持つ路面電車のない都市の2群に分けて、各種社会経済指標の比較を行い、これら2群の都市の性格の違いについて分析し、今後のLRT整備のための都市要件と整備効果を探る基礎的分析とした。路面電車の有無については、歴史的経緯もあって直ちには社会経済指標のみでは表現できない側面もあるが、路面電車のある都市は、ない都市に比較して、地域中心特性が高い、道路空間に余裕がある、商業的な特性は強いがその企業規模は小さい、都市の広がり方はコンパクト等の傾向が確認できた。
