Abstract

Platooning of autonomous vehicles are projected to diminish the number of fatalities due to hazardous traffic events. To completely exploit the profits of driverless vehicles, we have to ensure the functional safety and reliability of the systems used in AVs. System or subsystems used for AVs are usually a safety critical system. A safety critical accessory of highly automated vehicles needs a continuous and stable DC-power supply for it’s functioning. A minor fluctuation in power supply due to deviation from intended functionality of components used can leads catastrophic events. Highly automated vehicles have many safety critical systems and all the functionality of AVs are depend on the microcontrollers. These microcontrollers need a stable and continuous power supply all the time in every situation. In this paper, we continued our past work to develop functionally safe dual-bus platoon architecture and presented a functionally safe and reliable high voltage DC power supply system architecture for safety critical systems.
