Abstract

The main characteristics of a two-particle density matrix functional, proposed earlier by the authors for the calculation of the correlation energy, are discussed and compared with the CI and LSD approaches. Applications of this functional to the calculation of ground state energies, excitation, dissociation energies and ionization potentials of atoms and molecules are reported.
