Abstract

Single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) has been adopted as the air interface for the uplink transmission in 3GPP long term evolution (LTE) and long term evolution advanced (LTE-A) systems because it has low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). The performance of SC-FDMA system degrades in frequency selective fading channel because of the use of single carrier. Also, the performance of SC-FDMA system degrades when the orthogonality among subcarriers is lost due to the presence of carrier frequency offsets (CFOs) in the channel. In this paper, we have proposed a joint minimum mean squared error (JMMSE) successive interference cancellation (SIC) equalizer scheme that performs the frequency domain equalization (FDE) as well as the CFOs compensation jointly for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) SC-FDMA based LTE-A uplink system. The bit error rate (BER) performances of MMSE-FDE and JMMSE-SIC equalizers have been compared and the simulation results show that the proposed equalizer performs better than the MMSE-FDE equalizer for multi-user (MU) MIMO SC-FDMA system.
