Abstract

It is axiomatic that sustainability remains one of the key challenges of the present generation. In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), organizations are attempting to integrate ideas of sustainability into various spheres of their business operations, in general. Pursuant to the above endeavors, this paper explores the applicability and plausibility of the concept of project management “sustainability” methodologies and practices, within the context of the UAE. The paper begins with a comprehensive review of the relevant literature on sustainability, followed by a similar review of literature in the area of project management, in general. Thereafter, we postulate a plausible framework for ‘Sustainable Project Management’, together with its concomitant methodologies and taxonomy. Furthermore, the implications of the proposed project management sustainability framework for UAE practitioners are presented - in operational, competencies and practical project management terms.
