Abstract

The contributing factor in field of healthcare is characterized by large volumes of highly complex medical knowledge and patient data. It must be captured, processed, interpreted, stored, analyzed, and exchanged perfectly. Added to this most of the healthcare information systems are typically not interoperable. Achieving interoperability between two or more disparate systems has been both a strong desire and difficult challenge to information professionals ever since viable technological innovations. To intensify this challenge, attributes of an interoperability solution for a particular situation might not be sufficient for another. The proposed scheme introduces a framework for interoperable healthcare information systems that will be able to manage voluminous complex medical data. The healthcare information exchange software (HIES) system is developed to provide a solution to interoperability in healthcare systems basing on a proposed adaptable standard making possible an exchange of healthcare information among healthcare systems. The HIES system creates a complete health record of patient which is interoperable in healthcare systems according to the information exchange standard resulting in quality care of patients.
