Abstract

Healthcare services are complex and dynamic in nature, and have been the focus of several business improvement efforts. While various techniques in the literature have attempted process improvement, process redesign efforts largely use assumed “as-is” models instead of real process executions. In this paper, we propose an evidence based approach for business process redesign, making use of process execution data. We compare various clustering algorithms for process mining and demonstrate usefulness of clustering. Subsequently, we propose using simulation along with data envelopment analysis at a process level to find the most efficient processes, and to evaluate multiple what-if scenarios.
