Abstract

Abstract There is a class of visual illusions in which still pictures appear to move at random. We review the human visual system and existing mathematical models for this class of illusions, and use this information to formulate a framework of drawing rules with which anyone can create similar illusions. The validity of the framework is confirmed with examples.
