Abstract

A fractal trans-plane permeability model for textile fabrics was developed based on the fact that sizes of pores in porous fiber preforms follow the fractal distribution. The proposed model can be expressed as a function of the pore area fractal dimension and architectural parameters of the fiber preform. This model also relates the permeability to porosity changes of fiber preforms under compression, which usually occurs in the molding processes. The results predicted by the present model were compared with those of the existing experimental data of bidirectional stitched glassfiber preforms
