Abstract

The book O Fazedor de Velhos (The one who created old ones, approximately), by Rodrigo Lacerda (2008) has substantiated our discussion on the contribution of literature for a humanizing formation, following the statements by Candido (1992). We sought to comprehend the novel of formation, known as Bildungsroman, in accordance with Maas (2000) and Pinto (1990). The book's structural aspects -- narrator, language, shape, as well as pedagogical intention -- stand out in our approach. Besides the aforementioned authors, Colomer (2003), Todorov (2009), Barthes (1973), Eco (2001), Lajolo (1989), among others, contributed to our analytical and interpretative reading.
