Abstract

This article aims at making a qualitative analysis of a political discourse: the victory speech of the candidate elected to the vice-presidency of the United States of America, in the 2020 elections, Kamala Harris. The discursive formation of her statement will be identified, as well as the discursive strategies that the speaker used to create her ethos, the construction of her image of cred-ibility, as well as the means by which she tries to preserve this created image. The selected analysis corpus was obtained from an official video of Harris’ first statement after the election results, on the American television channel NBCNews, recorded on November 8, 2020. Discourse Analysis through techniques based on the postulates de Charaudeau (2006a, 2006b, 2011) and Maingueneau (2005) were the theoretical and methodological contribution to the undertaken study.
