Abstract

Summary. Twenty‐four members of a class of approximately 16‐year‐old grammar school boys wrote brief forecasts of their own lives ten years later. After the period of ten years had elapsed, twenty of the original group were traced. All of them agreed tc answer a questionnaire concerning their recollections of their forecasts and their vocational and personal history in the intervening period. An analysis of the forecasts suggests that these twenty‐four boys had thought about vocational aspirations, questions of marriage, status and prestige, leisure interests, independence, and their own physical appearance. The follow‐up study provides factual information on the transition from school to adult life and also gives indications of the attitudes towards this process from the young adult's perspective.
