Abstract

This study is based on data from the 63 cases of tuberculous meningitis treated by the authors during the past seven years. Tuberculous meningitis was found to be more frequent in women especially about the age of twenty. The combined mostly triple chemotherapy using large dosage of INH was continued for 6 to 18 months or more.In some cases cortisone or prednisolone was also used. The effects of chemotherapy were excellent in most cases. Early treatment was important, but late treatment also resulted frequently in good effects. As the complications pulmonary tuberculosis, miliary tuberculosis and paralysis of the ocular muscles were observed very often. As the sequelae hearing disturbance, deterioration of the memory and atrophy of the optic nerve were observed occasionally.
