Abstract

A flying-adder frequency synthesis architecture has been developed recently. It has many unique features which can not be easily achieved by conventional PLL based techniques, such as very fine frequency resolution, instantaneous response speed, precisely describable frequency transfer function, reduced analog design complexity and etc. These features are especially beneficial to video/graphic applications which often require many frequencies generated on-chip. This Flying-Adder architecture based PLL technique is an enabler which enables many novel approaches to be created for solving various problems in video/graphic environment. This paper demonstrates several such new approaches enabled by this technique.
