Abstract

A novel C3-symmetrical anthracene-functionalized hexahomotrioxacalix[3]arene L was synthesized via Click chemistry and its chemosensing properties with alkylammonium ions were investigated. The significant fluorescence enhancements were observed with addition of alkylammonium ions (including primary and tertiary ones), indicating a high selectivity for alkylammonium ions. Our studies demonstrated that the detection limit on fluorescence response of the sensor to is in the 10–6 M range. The mechanism of the interaction between the L and alkylammonium ions has been investigated in detail by 1H NMR spectroscopic titration experiments. Density functional theory (DFT) quantum chemical calculations were conducted to estimate the electronic interaction energies (ΔIE) between the chemosensor L and alkylammonium ions.
