Abstract
Surveillance systems are increasing their complexity in terms of real-time requirements, performance, sensor types and multiplicity, human computer interface and dependability. To this category belong Vessel Traffic Control Systems (VTS) that support control and monitoring of ship traffic in congested areas. The ESPRIT project 6373 TRACS, partially funded by CEC, is developing a new generation of VTS based on the exploitation of high performance computer and intelligent data processing & monitoring techniques.
