Abstract

Abstract For precision voltage measurements, analog front-ends (AFEs) are often required to have a negligible influence over the potential of the measurement points. Also a high flexibility regarding the adjustment possibilities and the possibility to perform these adjustments remotely are necessary for automatic measurement operations. The paper presents a flexible AFE, meant for measurement purposes, having selectable preset gain coefficients, offset adjustment, dc/ac coupling selection and switchable current source. The AFE can be remotely configurable by means of digital control signals. The paper contains both a theoretical description and the results obtained during the assessment of the AFE. Results acquired while conditioning both small and large input signals are presented. The proposed AFE detains ±15 V dynamic ranges characteristic both to the input and output. It also has an input impedance much higher than 107 Ω. The obtained results show that the AFE can be employed for voltage, current and resistivity measurements.
