Abstract
We describe a flashlamp-pumped dye laser in a telescopic resonator configuration. Theory and experiment are used to show that such a resonator allows high energy, TEM00 mode operation of this type of laser. Also demonstrated for the first time is the tunability of the telescopic resonator, a feature which should allow diffraction-limited coverage of the entire visible region of the spectrum merely by changing the dye.
