Introduction

Botallo’s duct typically closes within the first three days after birth. Its tissue is immature in preterm infants and, has a much lower tendency to reflex closure. The shorter is the period of the premature child’s gestation, the more he/she needs medication or surgical treatment owing to a number of severe complications most commonly associated with a PDA: cardiac insufficiency, pulmonary decompensation, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, intracranial hemorrhage, necrotizing enterocolitis and others
