Abstract

MYIASIS, the invasion of tissues or organs of man and other animals by maggots (larval stages of flies), is well known and rather widely distributed. James, in 1947,<sup>1</sup>summarized the myiasis-producing flies. The reader is referred to his excellent review. Two species of the fly genus<i>Wohlfahrtia, W vigil</i>and<i>W opaca</i>, are proven causes of human myiasis.<i>W vigil</i>has been reported as the cause of myiasis in man from a number of locations in Canada. In the United States, human cases of<i>W vigil</i>myiasis have been verified from Colorado and Minnesota.
