Abstract

A Hemmer-Jancovici expansion was used to derive a first-order quantum correction to a hard-sphere equation of state for mixtures. This correction is a function of the thermal de Broglie wavelength and the classical pair correlation function at the point of contact. This theory was used to obtain the first-order correction to the compressibility form of the Percus-Yevick hard-sphere equation. The quantum-corrected equation predicts pressures and temperatures that deviate significantly from the classical results for parameter values typical of many systems of practical importance.
