Raddeanamine (1), a unique spirobenzylisoquinoline alkaloid, was stereoselectively synthesized from the corresponding protoberberine (9) via 8-methyl-8, 14-cycloberbine (12) through regioselective C8-N bond cleavage and stereoselective hydroxylation at C8.
