Abstract

In the presented paper, first of all a finite element analysis has been done on an uncoated stainless steel AISI 304L plate having a pre-existing crack exposed to a convective medium of cyclic temperature variation. Thereafter, stainless steel AISI 304L plate having a pre-existing crack and exposed to a convective medium of cyclic temperature varied stresses induced thermal stress intensity factor with the thermal barrier coating was studied. Results show that the temperature is reduced by 41.74% with the application of TBC; obtained stress intensity factor amplitude value is reduced by 55.39% with top coat thickness 1 mm.
