Abstract

A method is described for the protection and disinfestation of farm-stored grain by the admixture of water-based emulsions of insecticides. Heavy infestations of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) in feed barley were quickly controlled by the application of malathion at 10 ppm, fenitrothion at 2 ppm and dichlorvos at 4 ppm. Fenitrothion at 1 ppm took longer to effect control. Malathion and fenitrothion disappeared slowly from the barley and conferred good protection for as long as 8 months. Dichlorvos disappeared more quickly and conferred relatively little residual protection.
