Abstract

This study presents a few issues when implementing seismic design of piping systems using elastic-plastic analysis. In the current seismic design standards for piping, structural evaluation is carried out based on elastic analysis using beam elements. There seems to be no case studies for examining the structural evaluation method when elastic-plastic analysis is applied in comparison with the current seismic design standards for piping. In this study, the structural evaluation method when elastic-plastic analysis was applied was examined with reference to the current seismic design standards for piping. First, the stress when the elastic-plastic analysis was performed and the stress when the stress coefficient of the current elastic analysis was applied were compared. Next, the strain limit when elastic-plastic analysis was performed was discussed.
