Abstract
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a revolutionary paradigm which aims to provide ubiquitous connectivity between smart objects and humans. In this sense, an interesting use of the IoT technology is on Smart Cities, as it enables the collection and analyses of data from sensors spread across many points. In the context of smart cities, solid waste management is one of the problems that has gained greater prominence in recent years, discussed with greater emphasis in conjunction with environmental issues. This paper implements a solution based on Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) and blockchain technologies to provide a fault-tolerant solution for collecting data from the position (latitude and longitude) and the amount of garbage into trash bins. These data are used to calculate a daily optimal route for trucks that collect solid waste. Additionally, the performance of the blockchain network was analyzed in a cloud environment under multiple workloads and tests were performed to evaluate the impact of network failures.
